Gynaecomastia

Advanced Surgical Treatment for Gynaecomastia

Gynaecomastia is a situation where male breast is enlarged. It may involve one side or both sides. It causes enormous social embarrassment leading to hesitancy and psychological trauma. In the initial phase, medical treatment is tried which may be effective. Once it is established, definitive and quick management is ‘surgery’. It can be done under local or general anaesthesia. The options are suction assisted lipectomy (liposuction) or excision of the lesion. Sometimes, they are combined. One should understand that gynaecomastia involves the gland as well as the surrounding fat. Liposuction can not remove the gland, only fat is removed. Therefore, a better definitive method is surgical removal of both. It is important to mention that the procedure is done through peri areolar incision, hence no scar is seen in future. A pressure garment is advised after operation for two months. The patients are always happy and regain their confidence.
